We got a call about a mum and pups living underground but the mum was too clever and too feisty to be caught. We offered our help but straight away we could see it wasn’t going to be easy. We had to first get mum in the trap as half the puppies had gone underground and mum was getting very angry when we got close. We also had to make sure the pups following mum wouldn’t get hit by the trap door so timing was important. It took 15 hours but we got everyone safely. GDS had no space at the time of the rescue so they went to a local shelter, Los Unicos, who kindly took in the whole family. When space opened up at GDS, we took in five of her pups: Kid, Kipling, Cake, Pie and Toffee. Kissy was very stressed and shut down at Los Unicos so we have taken her as well. She’s still terrified; we are giving her all the time she needs to relax and learn to trust.
